Safe neighborhood in Orlando is one of the most frequently asked questions I get when working with out -of -state buyers and investors. When relocating to Orlando, Florida, it is very natural to ask your local realtor if a particular area considered to be safe. Please, keep in mind that realtors adhere to Code of ethics and fair Housing act and answering this question directly can put them in a potential violation ethically and legally.
Definition of a safe neighborhood might be very different for everyone. With that said, I highly recommend to conduct your own due diligence. To help you with the research, I am sharing these four main resources that can help to navigate through this tricky question.
Realtor.com is easy to navigate and offers a crime map in any city in US. Click on any listing and choose crime filter on the map.
Seminole County Sheriff office crime and map statistics. Shows the type of crime and location that crime has occurred. Data is updated every month. If you see area on the county map with no crime, please, double check the city website.
Orange County Sheriff Office crime data reflects the most current data on crime in Orange County, Orlando, FL .Check out their Crime Free Multi-Housing list if you are looking to rent. You will find a list of communities that participate in the Crime Free Multi-Housing program and work closely with local police department to enhance safety of the tenants.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement website allows to search for the location of a sexual offender or predator in relation to the address you are researching.
Last but not least, reach out to the residents who live in the neighborhood via social media. People love sharing what they like and don’t like about the place they live. Take a trip and visit the area, check out shops, restaurants, play grounds and ask questions in person and reach out to school stuff. Take multiple visits if you can in different time of the day and different days of the week.
